Ann Arbor Named One of the Best Small Cities for Successful Aging

In a report released by the Milken Institute, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, Ann Arbor was ranked the #7 Best Small City to age successfully.

According to the report, the Milken Institute defined successful aging in America by the following:

  • We want to live in places that are safe, affordable, and comfortable.
  • We want to be healthy and happy.
  • We want to be financially secure and part of an economy that enables opportunity and entrepreneurship.
  • We want living arrangements that suit our need.
  • We want mobility and access to convenient transportation systems that get us where we want and need to go.
  • We want to be respected for our wisdom and experience; to be physically, intellectually, and culturally enriched; and to be connected to our families, friends, and communities.

The Milken Institute used all of the factors above to develop the first Best Cities for Successful Aging Index.
The report cited public transportation, multiple Universities and a strong health care system as contributing factors.
