Spring Cleaning for Your Kitchen

After a snowy and cold winter the official start of spring is tomorrow. For most of us this means that spring cleaning is just around the corner. Since it is easiest to clean one area at a time, today we are focusing on the kitchen. Use these tricks to remove offensive odors from your kitchen.
garbage disposal
Smelly Sink
If you have a smell coming from your sink, often times it is due to your garbage disposal. To solve the smell, pour a cup of boiling water through the disposal. This will clean off the blades. Then grind up citrus peels like lemon or orange rind.
fridge
Rancid Refrigerator
Start by removing any old food and washing out the fridge. If there is still a smell, try soaking a cotton ball in vanilla extract, and then put it in a little bowl on the lowest open shelf. Remove in a few days when dry. If you prefer the smell of coffee, try a bowl of used coffee grounds instead.
Grungy Garbage
If you’ve removed the trash and washed the garbage can but it still smells consider investing in SimpleHuman Charcoal Filters. These inexpensive strips of charcoal stick to the inside of the lid, and can be recharged by placing in sunlight.
dishwasher 2
Dirty Dishwasher
Most people go long periods of time without cleaning their dishwasher. To clean the inside, run the dishwasher with no soap. If the dishwasher still smells, use a sponge and nailbrush to clean out the filters and the screen at the bottom of your dishwasher. Doing this at least every two months helps maintain the life of the dishwasher.
range
Stinky Stove
Start by wiping up spills on the burner, these can prevent proper gas flow on a gas range oven. Make sure before you turn on the burner, turn on the range hood—every single time. Some of the particles and gases that come off the stovetop while you’re cooking have been connected to respiratory health problems. Clean your range hood filter regularly, the easiest way to get inside is by snapping off the tabs near the vent.
