A Home-Inspired Itinerary for a Full Day in Ann Arbor

As a real estate company, we are pretty focused on all things home. After all, our entire purpose is to help people find a place to call home — somewhere they can put down roots and make memories for years to come.

That’s why we decided to create a home-inspired itinerary for Ann Arbor, starting with breakfast at Anna’s House and culminating with a concert at Kerrytown Concert House. Each stop involves the concept of “house” or “home” within its name — including a tour of some houses currently on the market in the Ann Arbor area.

9 a.m.: Eat Breakfast at Anna’s House

Any good day starts at Anna’s House, a retro 50s-inspired diner with locations all throughout Michigan, including one right here in Ann Arbor. It has a cheery interior with bright colors and funky decor — including a larger-than-life hand-painted mural. Each of their dishes is made with all-natural, fresh, local, quality ingredients, from the omelets and scrambles to sandwiches and wraps. Plus, they have many vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options for guests with food sensitivities. Pro Tip: Anna’s House doesn’t take reservations on the weekend, but you can click here to “get in line” on Yelp!

10:30 a.m.: Shop for Home Decor at FOUND

Occupying an anchor spot on the ground floor of Kerrytown Market & Shops, FOUND is a creatively curated shop featuring work by local artists and makers, along with a collection of jewelry, gifts and home decor. You’ll find a few “found” vintage items along with eclectic brand new pieces, hand-selected by owner Mary Cambruzzi. Both online and in person, you can shop from a wide variety of items, including pillows, rugs, throws, textiles, candles, mugs, pots and planters, bath and body products, and much more. This is one of our favorite home decor stores in Ann Arbor because of their emphasis on local makers — and the possibility of finding a one-of-a-kind artisan piece no one else has!

12:30 p.m.: Grab Lunch at the Pizza House

The Pizza House has been the late-night pizza destination in Ann Arbor since they opened in 1986. They serve Chicago-style pizza, plus a variety of mouth-watering appetizers and delectable entrees, like pasta, burgers, sandwiches, ribs, chicken dishes, and more. Their downtown headquarters is also the home of The Garage Bar, where you can get your Pizza House eats with one of 32 beers on tap, craft cocktails and more. The Pizza House is the #1 game day destination in Ann Arbor, as there is plenty of seating, lots of TVs, and a shuttle going straight to the Big House when there’s a home game!

2:30 p.m.: Go to an Open House

If you’re in the market for a home in Ann Arbor, visiting open houses is a worthwhile weekend activity. This gives you the opportunity to check out some of the houses currently on the market — or simply get a feel for the features you want in your future home. You can look at listings online all day, but there’s nothing like actually walking on the hardwoods or running your hands along the granite countertops, which helps you get a glimpse of the true look and feel of a home. Each weekend, our agents host open houses throughout the Ann Arbor area — click here for a list of upcoming open houses!

4 p.m.: Grab a Beer at HOMES Brewery

HOMES Brewery is the place to be any day of the year, as the massive outdoor beer garden is equipped with shade sails for warm days and fire pits for cold ones. The name HOMES carries a lot of meaning, but is mainly the acronym for the names of the Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior). HOMES focuses on hoppy and sour beers, but they venture outside of those styles periodically. They keep about 8-14 beers on tap, depending on their production capacity, in addition to options for non-beer-drinkers, like hard seltzer smoothies, locally sourced spirits, wine and cider. Pair your drink of choice with something from their food menu, which is focused on Asian-influenced street food. HOMES allows well-behaved dogs in the beer garden as long as they are leashed and attended to by the owner. In fact, HOMES is so dog-friendly that they have an entire Instagram page dedicated to their furriest patrons!

6 p.m.: Eat Dinner at The Chop House

Wind down with an indulgent dinner at The Chop House, a cozy steakhouse in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor. Established in 1998, The Chop House is richly decorated with exquisite artwork and ornate gas lamps emitting a warm glow throughout the dining room. They offer only the finest USDA Prime beef, wet-aged 28 days to flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Plus, their menu includes premium seafood dishes, chicken, lamb, pork and veal chops. After dinner, retreat to the La Dolce Vita cocktail lounge, which serves signature martinis, top-shelf liquors, after-dinner drinks and rich house-made desserts.

7:30 p.m.: Listen to Music at Kerrytown Concert House

Depending on the day, you may be able to catch a concert at Kerrytown Concert House! This intimate, 110-seat venue is a nonprofit organization focused on community engagement and providing audiences with fine art, including everything from live music to gallery exhibitions. Inside their historic home-turned-venue, you can attend affordable events in various genres, including jazz, cabaret and more! Check out the event calendar here to see what’s playing tonight.
