Speak Out Against Hunger During Hunger Action Month

The Feeding America network of more than 200 food banks have unite to urge individuals to take action in their communities during Hunger Action Month. Hunger affects communities all across the country. According to the USDA, nearly 49 million people in American are uncertain of where they will find their next meal. Of those 49 million, 16 million are children. In Washtenaw County, 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 6 children struggle with hunger.

Food Gatherers, founded in 1988, was Michigan’s first food rescue program and has grown to be the primary emergency food distributor in Washtenaw County. By reducing food waste through gathering and distributing perishable and non-perishable food, coordinating with other hunger relief providers and developing new food resources, Food Gatherers strives to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

During Hunger Action Month, Food Gatherers is encouraging local businesses to speak out against hunger.

  • Volunteer at Food Gatherers
  • Make a financial contribution to Food Gatherers
