This bubbly, gut-friendly drink is also pretty popular here, especially from Unity Vibrations, a local kombucha brewery.

We couldn’t talk about Ypsilanti without at least mentioning the booming coffee scene here. Popular coffee shops and roasters like Hyperion Coffee Co., Biggby Coffee, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, Cross Street Coffee, B-24’s Espresso Bar and the aforementioned Cultivate Coffee & TapHouse are all beloved Ypsi institutions. Whether you’re perusing bustling districts like Depot Town, downtown and College Heights or exploring one of the many parks throughout Ypsilanti, there are plenty of excuses to get outside. In all of those parks, you’ll find playgrounds, golf courses, stables, bike trails, basketball courts, disc golf courses, an observatory, a water park, picturesque bridges and so much more!

 

There are plenty of great educational opportunities

With Ann Arbor right next door, many forget that Ypsilanti is also home to some spectacular educational opportunities and world-class colleges! Eastern Michigan University, which draws thousands of students every year, is a beautiful gem in Ypsilanti. In fact, it was listed on U.S. New’s 2020 list of the best colleges in the United States! And if you aren’t quite ready for a four-year university yet, Washtenaw Community College is also a great choice.

Usually one of our favorite ways to spend a day in the area is by attending one of the city’s many festivals! Are you a fan of The King of Rock and Roll? Don’t miss Michigan Elvisfest in July! A craft beer enthusiast? The Michigan Summer Beer Festival is for you. Obsessed with everything Halloween? ypsiGLOW is a local favorite. While many of these events have been canceled this year due to COVID-19, we’re looking forward to attending these iconic festivities in the future!

 

Ypsi history is fascinating

While Detroit might be the first city that pops into your mind when you think of historical destinations in Michigan, Ypsilanti also offers an interesting heritage and a dedicated group of historians and archivists that are just as interested in it as you will be. Did you know that Ypsilanti played a major role in WWII at the Willow Run Bomber plant—which was home to many real-life Rosie-the-Riveters? And it also laid claim to the very last Hudson dealership.
