7 Places to Get Great Avocado Toast in Ann Arbor, Michigan

January through March is avocado season, and you know what that means! Fresh guacamole, salads, tacos, and, of course, the Instagramfamous avocado toast is on the menu once again.  

To celebrate this incredible superfood and the cult following of avocado toast, we’ve rounded up a few places in Ann Arbor where you can get this tasty treat! Whether you want to eat it for brunch, lunch, dessert or as a mid-day snack, these restaurants and coffee shops are here to curb your avo-cravings.  

Avalon International Breads originally opened their humble Detroit storefront in 1997 striving to offer artisan baked goods made with 100% organic flour. Today, they have developed the building blocks of the region’s agri-urban economy and operate four storefronts and restaurants total—including one in Ann Arbor! Because of their dedication to local agriculture and organic menu items, they offer some of the best avocado toast in townSmashed avocado, tahini, cucumber, lime, chili, olive oil all served on some of their crispy, fresh bread. Add a sunny-side-up fresh farm egg on top for $2 for some extra protein!  

 

This creative eatery has two locations in the Ann Arbor area, both serving espresso drinks, soups, sandwiches, baked goods and more! In addition to all that, Songbird Café also offers brunch on weekends until 3 p.m. at their northside location. That’s when you can get your hands on their famous avocado toast, featuring multigrain toast, an avocado spread, lemon, sunflower seeds, red pepper flakes and garlic, topped with egg and some tomato slices on the side.   

Thrive Juicery is a local destination for everything healthy. We’re talking ionized alkaline water, cold-pressed juice, raw dishes and so much more. While you’re sipping on your juice (they have options like “Serious Green” and “Sunshine”!) don’t forget to order one of their artisan toasts! Their avocado toast is definitely our favorite on the menu, featuring avocado, tomato, basil, balsamic glaze, sea salt and pepper, but we also love their pear toast, boasting pears, crème fraiche, chopped pecans, blue cheese, raw honey and microgreens.  

 

First Bite is driven by the idea of Food 4.0, which is why you’ll find the phrase featured prominently on the wall in the dining room. They believe that food must positively impact everyone involved: the producers, the customers, the First Bite team and the environment. That’s why they support local farming and sourcing from like-minded vendors — plus, almost all of the team’s packaging is fully compostable. Their avocado toast is a local favorite, donned “Ann Avocado Toast, this tasty breakfast features crispy organic, multi-grain bread topped with creamy avocado, goat cheese, roasted tomatoes and a house blend of spices.  

 

Located downtown, aMa Bistro is a family-owned and operated restaurant preparing classic, home-style foods and exciting international dishes to suit every taste. Self-dubbed “The Best Place to Eat in Ann Arbor,” aMa offers anything and everything from burgers and Albanian dishes to wraps, seafood risotto, chicken alfredo and a wide variety of salads. If you stop by for breakfast take-out, don’t miss their “Avo-Toast, which is schmeared with mashed avocado, cheese, pepper flakes and topped with a poached egg 

This downtown restaurant is named for two things: the word “mani, which means “hands” or “handmade” in Italian, and the classic Italian osteria, an eatery that emphasizes local ingredients, small production wines and hospitality. Their impressive, seasonal weekend brunch menu features a line-up of MANI’s famous wood-fired pizzas, trendy avocado toast, craveable Benedicts and a huge list of morning cocktails. 

 

Nestled on South U, Social House is at the heart of the student, faculty and staff life at The University of Michigan. Whatever you need—coffee, a delicious meal, drinks—Social House has you covered! Their avocado toast is a classic, featuring thick toasted bread, avocado, a slice of tomato, a sunny-side-up egg and fresh herbs.
