11 Exceptional Public Golf Courses in the Ann Arbor Area

Ann Arbor’s picturesque, gently rolling terrain makes it a perfect destination for golfers from around the state to come and play a round of 18. We have a number of lush, championship courses in the area, each offering new challenges and fun quirks of their own.

While we think all of A2’s courses are amazing in their own right, we’ve rounded up a few that stand apart from the rest — or are better than par, if you will. Whether you just want to brush up on your game, or you’re a local looking to discover a new favorite course, we’re sure you’ll be scheduling a tee time in no time!

 

University of Michigan Golf Course

This stunning, seasonal 18-hole golf course was designed in the late 1920s by renowned architect Alister MacKenzie, one of golf’s all-time great architects. The course itself officially opened in 1931, gaining national attention as one of the finest in America. While this golf course is specifically intended for student use, it’s also open to the public and now includes a driving range, a restaurant and a shop! Because of how busy it gets during the warmer months, we recommend booking a tee time online in advance.

 

Leslie Park Golf Course

Built in 1967, the Leslie Park Golf Course is a municipal course offering 18 holes throughout pastoral grounds. Designed for all different skill levels, this course features four sets of tees, a slope rating of 129, and a 72 USGA rating. The best part of this course, however, is the setting. Nestled in Ann Arbor’s rolling hills and surrounded by peaceful parkland, creeks and greenery, Leslie Park is one of the most beautiful places to golf in Southeast Michigan. Don’t believe us? Fox Hills Golf & Banquet Center

Recognized as one of the top public golf courses and wedding destinations in Michigan for over 40 years, Fox Hills is one of the most prestigious golfing facilities in the area. The 63-hole, championship course offers 500 acres of challenging obstacles and picturesque scenery.  Their three pristine and diverse courses—The Golden Fox, Fox Classic and Strategic Fox Courses—have won countless awards over the years. Huron Hills Golf Course

Huron Hills Golf Course is a beautiful par 67, 18-hole, 5,071-yard golf course located along the Huron Parkway. Established in 1922, this historic course is perfect for beginners, juniors, seniors and families, while still providing a challenge for the experienced golfer. In fact, if you have a little one who is an aspiring golfer, check out Huron Hills’ Wee Tees, a dedicated part of their regulation front seven holes just for beginners and families.

 

Radrick Farms Golf Course

Radrick Farms Golf Course is a 275-acre, championship-caliber 18-hole course, located in the rolling hills just east of A2. As one of two University of Michigan courses, Radrick Farms primarily serves U of M faculty, staff and alumni but has been open to public play since 2015. The course itself features nearly 4 miles of fairway playing through an elevation change of 110 feet.

 

Stonebridge Golf Club

One of the most popular spots to golf in Southeast Michigan, Stonebridge Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course and driving range. The well-groomed course, which was designed in 1991 by Arthur Hills, sports lush green turf and a championship layout of water and woods. In addition to impeccable natural beauty, Stonebridge also offers several tee options to accommodate all levels of play from beginners to expert golfers. Lake Forest Golf Club

Lake Forest Golf Club and Practice Center is a premier par 72 golf course located on 170 acres located just minutes from downtown. In addition to the golf course, they also have a 5-acre Practice Facility complete with three teeing areas, a putting green and a short game area with practice bunkers. Washtenaw Golf Club

Opened in 1899, Washtenaw Golf Club is the third oldest golf course in Michigan. Located in Ypsilanti, the course boasts 18 holes of par 72 golf in a lush, bright green environment. The public course was designed to challenge players of all skill levels. Here, you’ll find grassy knolls, testing obstacles and more—all maintained to tournament quality. The country club offers picturesque views of the course, perfect for toasting to a successful round.

 

Brookside Golf Course

Located 2 miles south of Ann Arbor in Saline, Brookside Golf Course was first opened in 1965. Today, this popular course offers a challenging round of golf with a family atmosphere, a grass tee driving range, a bar and grill and a pro shop with reasonable prices. And if you’re looking for great scenery, you’ve found the perfect place! A meandering creek, ponds and mature trees create a beautiful, serene environment for golfers of any level.

Located just 10 miles north of Ann Arbor, you’ll find Whitmore Lake Golf Links—18 holes of golfer’s paradise.
