Fall is finally here and we couldn’t be more excited! There is something extra magical about the season as the temperature cools, the pumpkins come out, the leaves change, and we finally have an excuse to wear cozy sweaters, flannel and boots.

It’s time to welcome the season with open arms—and guess what? You don’t even have to leave your house to do so. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite fall home decorating ideas, tips and tricks so that you can make your home look and feel as cozy as possible. Welcome in the season at your front door

First impressions are important. That’s why your seasonal decor should always start at your front door! Get your porch and/or front door ready for the season with planters full of mums, pumpkins, gourds, a festive doormat and a few lanterns to add a welcoming glow to evenings. And don’t be afraid to create arrangements in layers! Place potted plants on top of different levels of boxes and choose pumpkins in varying sizes to create an orchestra of color that welcomes you home every day.

 

Spread small arrangements throughout the house

Ask any decorator about the best ways to decorate for fall and they all agree: small arrangements. Clusters of pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, a bouquet of flowers, crowns of greenery and more spread throughout the house will create eye-catching moments of fall excitement wherever you go! Try placing at least one small arrangement—even if it’s just a grouping of two to three pumpkins—in any place you gather often. Near the front door, on the dining room table, next to the TV and even in the kitchen!

Fall, just like spring, is a season full of juxtaposition. Life and death. Old and new. Outdoors and indoors—you get the idea. So play into that idea with contrasting textures like plaid and faux fur; fancy china and antique tins; burlap and soft fleece. Small details like this can easily cozy up your home and help welcome in the exciting new season.

When we think of autumn, we’re imagining the changing leaves, pumpkins, corn husks, gourds, sweet potato vines and more natural pieces. That’s why your fall decor should always take advantage of the seasonal bounty. Use pumpkins to liven up any corner of the room. Sprinkle fall leaves over flat surfaces and proudly display sunflowers anywhere you can. Fall isn’t just about the oranges, yellows and reds. We also love to use moody colors that help set a darker mood. Navy blues, deep aquas, rich greens, jet blacks are all colors that usually get ignored during this bright season. But if you’re going for a more modern look, don’t be afraid to play around with darker hues.

 

Don’t forget the autumn candles
