How to Celebrate Easter 2021 in Ann Arbor, Michigan

As our second Easter during the global COVID-19 pandemic approaches, you might be wondering how to celebrate. While many local businesses and restaurants are open to the public, things aren’t much different from last year. Masks are still required, and social distancing is still recommended.
To give you a few ideas on how to celebrate Easter in Ann Arbor this year, we rounded up a few socially distanced events and at-home festivities you can partake in. We’re talking egg hunts, virtual Easter Bunny visits, movie marathons and more! Read on and then let us know how you plan to celebrate in the comments below.

Attend a local egg hunt

Bring the kids out to hunt for Easter eggs on this festive “egg-cellent” trail! Kids will have the chance to search for eggs in different themed areas. You’ll want to bring a basket or a bag, dress for the weather and bring your camera to capture photos of the Easter Bunny working in his natural habitat. Social distancing and face coverings are required for participation. The cost is $6 per person and children ages 2 and under are free.

When: April 2-4
Join the KOA campground in Ypsilanti for their opening weekend celebration! Enjoy hunting for eggs, meeting the Easter Bunny, participating in arts and crafts and playing other exciting games. Facial coverings are mandatory and social distancing is encouraged. Click here for all the information.

Where: Willow Greenhouse
When: April 3, 11 a.m.
We have it on good authority that the Easter bunny will be stopping by Willow Greenhouse in Northville to hide a bunch of eggs throughout the gardens! Stop by on April 3rd from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and go on an exciting hunt with your children. This event is completely free, and masks and social distancing are required.

Or organize one of your own

If you don’t feel comfortable going out to hunt for eggs, creating your own exciting egg hunt is as easy as picking up some plastic or candy eggs from the store! Spend an hour on Easter morning, hiding them around your yard and/or house. You can fill them with coins, candy and other treats. Then, watch with joy as your little ones scour the property to find their goodies!

Take a virtual photo with the Easter Bunny

While there won’t be many opportunities to hug the Easter Bunny this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t still get a photo with him! PictureMeWorld.com is a website that takes a photo of you or your child, and photoshops them into photos with holiday figures. Just take a photo of your child on a chair draped with a white sheet and they’ll do the rest! Click here for more information.

Chat with the Easter Bunny on Cameo

Most famous celebrities are now on Cameo, the app that allows you to purchase personalized messages from celebrities for your friends and family, so it stands to reason that the most famous bunny in the land would be on there too! Simply request a personalized message for just $10 and the Easter Bunny will send a short message talking directly to your children. Click here for more information, customer reviews and video examples!

Go all out with decorating

Who says that holiday decorating is just for Halloween and Christmas? Spring is here and we want to celebrate with cheerful primary colors, egg-related décor and cute, bunny and carrotthemed goodies all over our home. To make up for the lack of friend time, task your children with decorating the entire house for Easter. Make DIY decorations for the wall, place Easter baskets in every room and hang a brandnew Easter wreath on the front door! Not only will the festive décor make you happy when you see it, but your neighbors will appreciate the sentiment too.

Decorate eggs

When it comes to Easter traditions, we can’t forget about decorating eggs! These days, Pinterest is full of new and exciting ways to decorate hard-boiled eggs that have nothing to do with vinegar and food coloring tablets. Geode eggs, paper mâché eggs, mermaid eggs, paint-splattered eggs — there are so many ways to get creative with this Easter favorite. Here’s a list of egg-cellent egg inspiration from Oprah.com that will help you get started!

Get Easter brunch delivered

If you typically go out for Easter brunch or dinner (or head to Grandma’s for her Easter specialties) don’t take it upon yourself to cook a multi-course meal. Instead, consider supporting a local business. The Ann Arbor area is packed full of incredible brunch spots that offer curbside pickup and delivery! You can also stop by for a dine-in meal, provided you social distance and keep your mask on when not eating. Click here for a list of our favorite places in A2 for brunch!

Pick up some Easter-themed snacks from Kilwin’s

Chocolate bunnies, cream eggs, jelly beans and other sweet treats are a must when it comes to celebrating Easter at home! Luckily, local chocolate destination, Kilwin’s always goes all out on Easter. This year, Kilwin’s is offering a basket full of goodies available for delivery and curbside pickup! Click here to see their menu and give them a call to place your order.

Have an Easter movie marathon

While we’re always quick to settle in for a Christmas or Halloween movie marathon, we don’t always spend a day watching exciting Easter movies. And it isn’t because there is a lack of films to choose from! Several great Easter-themed flicks have come out over the past few years. If you’re looking for a fun, family activity this Easter, pop some popcorn and pool together your Easter candy for a family movie marathon! Rise of the Guardians, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Hop, Peter Rabbit, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown are all great choices.

Dress up in your Sunday best

One of our favorite parts of Easter Sunday is all the pretty outfits! Even if you aren’t planning on heading to church this Sunday, you can still dress up in your Easter best to enjoy egg hunts, brunch, online services and more. To make it even more of an event, dress up and then head to the car, where you can drive around town and take pictures of your family in their pristine outfits—before they get ruined by chocolate, of course.

Video chat with your family

If you can’t be together with your family this holiday weekend, consider video chatting them instead! While you might be Zoomed-out at this point, one 10-minute chat with your family members can make all the difference. If you can, consider downloading the Houseparty app, where you and your family can play games while you talk! The app is available for iOS, Android and Chrome so you can enjoy seeing your family face-to-face on whatever device you have.

Happy Easter!
