Ann Arbor Named One of the Top 10 College Towns

Livability.com, a comprehensive online resource of America’s best places to live, work, visit and play, named Ann Arbor one of the Top 10 College Towns.

Several factors were considered in determining the list of the Top 10 College Towns. According to Robert Franek, senior vice president, publisher, and author of Princeton Review, “key factors” that make a college town a great town for students include good location, weather and public transportation; a beautiful environment; friendly people; access to and availability of career opportunities; fun things to do off campus; and good college-community relations.

In addition, each city’s total population and the ratio of students to non-students were considered, because, according to Livibility.com, “it doesn’t seem right to call a place a college town if you can’t tell classes are in session with a quick glance at the mix of people on a busy sidewalk.”
Livability.com looked at towns where it is clear that the college is a big economic player in terms of jobs, as well as impacting the diversity of the city. Cost of living and walkability were also factors.
