Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels (YMOW) invites you to support their upcoming fundraiser Meals on Heels. Guests will enjoy a fun and fashionable cocktail party while supporting their mission to feed the homebound elderly and medically fragile of our local community.

Catering by Bona Sera and other great Taste of Ypsilanti favorites.  Listen to the house band playing all your favorite shoe inspired tunes, take part in a quirky shoe competition for prizes, and show off stylish stilettos to snazzy sneakers on the shoe red carpet.

11th Annual Spelling BeeMay 5

The Family Learning Institute, which provides free tutoring to approximately 150 young local students each year, will hold its 11th Annual Spelling Bee on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Eastern Michigan Convocation Center, 799 North Hewitt Road, Ypsilanti. Local businesses sponsor three-person teams who compete in an old-fashioned spelling bee.

A silent auction begins at 6:00 PM; the Spelling Bee begins at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $50, and the funds raised will enable FLI to expand its tutoring, outreach, and summer enrichment programs. Sponsorship opportunities for interested businesses are still available.

Chelsea Area Garden Club 19th Annual Plant SaleMay 6

The Chelsea Area Garden Club plant sale is a terrific way to kick off the gardening season. Scheduled the Saturday before Mother’s Day, the event is an opportunity to stock up on high quality locally grown perennials, ornamental grasses, daylilies, vegetables, and herbs. Proceeds from the plant sale are used for civic beautification, scholarships and grants for horticulture-related community projects. The event runs from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 6.

39th Annual Burns Park RunMay 7

Winding through beautiful Burns Park near the University of Michigan campus, this tree-lined, loop course has been a favorite of beginner and world-class runners alike. The Burns Park Run is a long-standing and successful fundraiser, organized and staffed by volunteers, that supports Burns Park Elementary PTO programs and other local schools via the Run for Schools program. Known for its family-friendly atmosphere, the Burns Park Run 5K and 10K races annually draw 1,300 to 1,500 runners, aged 5 to 90 years, with over 200 elementary school kids running the 5K.

Show & Shine Car ShowMay 7

This is the 38th year for “Show & Shine” sponsored by the Ypsilanti Area Street Rods. The show invites an eclectic mix of unrestored, restored, and modified cars and trucks. A $15 pre-registration fee ends April 15. The day of show car registration is $20. Gates open at 9 AM with a $2 donation for spectators.

The Taste of Saline is a celebration of the many talented people who live and work in the Saline area. This ticketed event provides a unique opportunity to sample culinary treats and hear and see talented musicians, artists, and performers all from the greater Saline area.  Wander inside fabulous participating downtown establishments and be entertained as you experience all that Saline has to offer! Honor students from Saline High School will greet you at each location and share a little bit of history about the building, thanks to the Saline Area Historical Society.
