Imagine a relaxing evening at home with a couple of margaritas or cosmos—that you didn’t have to make. While 2020 brought many horrors to Ann Arbor, if there’s one thing we would actually like to stick after the pandemic is over, it’s curbside cocktails!
Last March, as many restaurants and bars were closing their doors for in-person dining, many innovative small business owners had a brilliant idea: ready-made cocktails or cocktail kits in cans, bottles or mason jars that locals could take away and enjoy at home. While it is almost a year later, many A2 bars and restaurants are still selling to-go cocktails as they close once again for in-person dining to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the new year.
We rounded up a few recommendations right here, from restaurants offering canned Old Fashioneds to gallon jars of spirits. So, sit back, relax, and let someone else do the bartending this evening!
 
We can’t think of a better spot to get curbside cocktails than a distillery! Ann Arbor Distilling Company has been a popular destination throughout the pandemic, and it isn’t hard to see why. They have several different handcrafted canned cocktails made using their own spirits. The Bar at 327 Braun Court has gone almost completely virtual, offering a variety of merchandise, wine, beer, sweet treats, pizza, snacks and cocktails for online ordering and curbside pickup! Black Pearl, a local favorite for tasty seafood and martinis, has paved the way for many restaurants in Ann Arbor during the pandemic. We don’t know what we would have done without Blue Tractor’s BBQ and beer in 2020! Luckily, you still don’t have to go without their brews with curbside pickup. One of our favorite vegan destinations in A2, Detroit Street Filling Station, closed their doors to in-person dining back in October to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Any time is a good time for a rum-spiked batido from Frita Batidos! Choose from flavors like coconut cream, fresh lime, hibiscus, passion fruit and chocolate. Nothing has changed when it comes to their takeout and delivery options—the menu is still made up of local, fresh ingredients and changes often. Repeatedly named as Ann Arbor’s best cocktail bar, The Last Word is a hidden gem, literally. It’s located underground just up the street from The Blind Pig. With no exterior signage, dim lighting and an outstanding bar program, it’s a bar designed in true speakeasy fashion. But that doesn’t mean they’ve been inaccessible during the pandemic! They have a fantastic carryout program, featuring canned versions of all your favorite Last Word cocktails. Pick up a few tasty appetizers and be sure to add a few cocktails to your cart while you’re at it! 
 
Nightcap has become our go-to for delicious, fancy, affordable cocktails during the pandemic. They have a menu of more than 30 different to-go drinks including canned options (which even come in 4 packs!), bottles for 3-4, mini flights and more.
