If you are in or near Ann Arbor you are probably aware that this weekend FoolMoon and FestiFools will be taking over the city. For those unfamiliar here is some background. These two great events are a celebration of April Fools.

FoolMoon takes place Friday, April 5, from dusk to midnight and features a procession of hand-made illuminated sculptures that make their way through Ann Arbor to Washington and Ashley Street. This is the second annual Fool Moon.  It will feature live performances from Theo Katzman and Dan Henig.

Observers can get in on the fun of the event by purchasing a luminary kit for $20 during the event.  The kits provide the supplies need to make your own luminary and all the proceeds go to the funding of the event.

FestiFools is the street art fair that features man-operated papier-mache puppets created by members of the community and U of M students. This year’s FestiFools is Sunday, April 7, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Main Street between William and Washington.

Children can join in the foolishness by joining the Ann Arbor District Library and 826michigan and making robot costumes to wear in the procession.  Costume creation will take place Sunday from 2:00 to 3:30pm in the Downtown Library multi-purpose room.
