Saline Area Schools Hosts Empty Bowls Project to Benefit Food Gatherers

Back for the third consecutive year, the Saline Area Schools Empty Bowl Project is scheduled from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, February 7th at Saline High School.

Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger. A simple meal of soup and bread, prepared by the Saline Culinary Arts Program, is served in ceramic bowls, created by Saline students in 3rd thru 12th grade. Guests are asked to keep their bowl after their meal as a reminder that there are empty bowls across the world.

Tickets to Saline’s Empty Bowls event are $12 for individuals and $40 for a family. Proceeds from Empty Bowls will be donated to Food Gatherers, a nonprofit working to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in Washtenaw County. According to Steve Laatsch, Assistant Superintendent of Saline Area Schools, nearly $6,000 has been donated to Food Gatherers since the Empty Bowls Project began in Saline.
